    Programs that provide protection and care for unwanted pets or stray animals, and hold them for a specified period of time to provide an opportunity for owners to claim them prior to offering them for adoption. Included are shelters that euthanize the animals if not adopted within a specified amount of time, as well as "no kill" shelters that will keep the animals until they are adopted.

    Animal Support ServicesThe Mohawk Hudson Humane Society provides shelter for lost, abused and unwanted animals. The animal care facility is the largest in the Capital Region, receiving an average of 7,000 animals per year. The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society places animals in responsible homes. Each animal is spayed/neutered and vaccinated. Cats are tested for feline leukemia and dogs are tested for heart-worm. Treatment for fleas and intestinal parasites is administered if needed. Micro-chipping is available at the time of adoption for an additional $10. Pet owners may come to the Humane Society to claim lost pets. Found animals are listed on the Society's website www.mohawkhumanesociety.org. If you are in a situation you believe will require you to give up your pet, you have several options.
