Protective ServicesChildren ages 4-13 who come to the Schaffer Children's Diagnostic Shelter often require immediate removal from an unsafe living situation and must be in the custody of the Department of Social Services. This 8-bed shelter provides these children a stable place to reside while our professional clinicians evaluate the child and family and recommend the most appropriate long term living situation for the child. Services include referral to the shelter 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, psychological evaluation of children and their families, family assessment, psychological testing of parents upon request, psychiatric evaluation, comprehensive psychosocial assessment, behavioral assessment, medication assessment and management, and permanent life plan recommendations for the child.
