    Programs, often offered by local chess clubs, that provide opportunities for people of all ages to learn, become competitive in and enjoy chess, a complex board game for two players in which the opponents move pieces according to a set of rules with the objective of checkmating the opponent's king. The programs may provide chess instruction and sponsor or make arrangements for players to participate in chess tournaments.
