RCIL advocates provide active support and guidance for people with disabilities and help ensure that an individual’s choices for living independently are respected. Advocacy includes, but is not limited to, assistance with benefits, homelessness, evictions, disability rights issues, accessibility issues in the home or in the community, information and referrals, assistance in learning independent living skills, and peer support.
If the person is applying for benefits from Social Security, it is helpful for the
consumer to bring their Social Security card. Also, proof of address is helpful, such as a utility bill or rent receipt that includes the individual’s address.
