The Vocational Services Program is a community mental health program serving persons 18 or over with severe and persistent mental illness, who are seeking to enter the workforce. The goal of vocational services is to assist individuals in obtaining and maintaining employment in their chosen field via individual counseling and-or a job club model. Staff help prepare people to search for employment, assists them with the hiring process and provides ongoing support once employed. The program assists individuals with activities such as connecting with community resources for benefits advisement, intensive job coaching, or obtaining work attire. In addition, staff coordinates employment concerns with clinical providers and employers to provide a continuity of care and to optimize the probability of success.

Individuals are eligible who have a DSM IV diagnosis, are a resident of Rensselaer County, have medical and psychiatric stability sufficient to participate in a vocational program, are currently receiving mental health services, and who are Community Support Services eligible.
