General Information
Description of Service4-H Youth Development is Cornell Cooperative Extension's educational program for young people 5-19 years old. Its purpose is to help youth develop into competent, caring and contributing adults by developing life skills through involvement in neighborhood clubs, independent study, special interest series, school enrichment and after-school programs.

The 4-H Youth Development program aims to create supportive learning environments in which diverse yough and adults reach their fullest potential.

4-H Youth Development's educational mission areas include science, engineering and technology, healthy living, and youth community action-citizenship. 4-H creates opportunities for youth to experience independence, belonging generosity and mastery.

Adult volunteers are an important part of 4-H Youth Development. Each year many volunteers from the community support 4-H activities and programs. Positive relationships that occur between youth and caring adults are essential to the successful delivery of experiential youth education.

Intake RequirementsEach 4-H independent member and 4-H club member must submit enrollment paperwork and a small enrollment fee annually. The traditional 4-H club program is open to all youth ages 9 to 19. Cloverbud Clubs are open to youth in Kindergarten through age 8.

At least 2 caring adults and 5 youth ages 9-19 are needed to start a 4-H club. All 4-H clubs are open to both boys and girls and are equal opportunity organizations.
