Families Work (FW) provides individual, couples or family therapy to families identified by DSS as having children who are at risk of placement or who are already in placement with a goal of return to parent. Services are focused on the issues that are creating the risk or that led to the child's placement. Clients are seen at least once a week in their home. Services can include but are not limited to parenting skill building; anger management; stress management; problem solving; safety planning; supportive concrete services; case planning and school consultation. Services are provided from a trauma informed approach. Crisis services (via phone) are available for evenings and weekends.

Referrals must come from the Schenectady County Department of Social Services Intake Unit, Family Support Unit or PINS unit. If the family does not already have a case manager with the Department of Social Services then they must contact the Department of Social Services and request preventive services.
Families that are identified by the Department of Social Services as having children who are at risk of placement or who are already in foster care. Parents of children up to age 18.
