General Information
Description of ServiceThe Parent Effectiveness and Intervention Program is classroom-based parent education with intensive in-home intervention provided. Each twelve-week group is led by an experienced clinician-facilitator and includes assessment, consultation, counseling, skill building and support and eight weeks of office-based psycho-educational group and in-home intervention that focuses on specific parenting issues. PEIP provides thes services to parents-guardians who have a history of child protective involvement, or who are at risk for child protective involvement, or who have been identified by the Department of Social Services, the Department of Probation or other service providers as having the ability to benefit from improved parenting skills. PEIP assists in reducing the risk of further maltreatment (abuse-neglect) by providing parents-guardians with skills and tools that will help them improve their choices-behaviors in their interactions with their children.

Intake RequirementsA referral is required. Referrals come through the Columbia County Department of Social Services, although the referral may originate from Probation, schools, or other service providers. Once the Department of Social Services has determined to forward a referral to Northeast, the PEIP staff contact the parents-guardians to discuss the services and schedule an intake with the family.

EligibilityAny Columbia County family in which there is at least one child, age 1 to 18, who is at risk of out-of-home placement, and-or where referral sources have identified a need for improved parenting skills-parental attitude toward their children.
