General Information
Description of ServiceThe Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program is a rental subsidy program that allows families to obtain safe, decent affordable housing in an area of their choosing. The family generally pays 30% of the household's monthly adjusted income which makes the rent payment affordable. The program encourages families to choose housing in areas outside of "high poverty" concentrations. The family is able to reside in any city, town or village that administers a Housing Choice Voucher Program. There is a waiting list and the wait is typically 2 to 3 years.
