Description of Service
The Aftercare/Transitional Housing Program was developed to address the individual needs of each woman leaving the shelter and offers short term housing and support for women and their children who have moved beyond an emergency phase and are making the transition to independent living. The Aftercare Program has a unique feature where participating clients are contacted and visited on a day-to-day or weekly basis while residing in their batterer-free home. Participants can be housed in the program's transitional apartments or within the local community. This program works closely with families to increase their independence from the batterer and help them to make healthier choices for their future. Services are provided on a voluntary as needed basis. Services provided include support counseling, recreational activities, budgeting, advocacy, information and referral, transportation, apartment search, job search, resume writing, as well as safety planning. HUD Permanent Supportive Housing is also a component of this program.
